Richard & Emma, Luxters Wedding

Many cultures believe that rain on your wedding day is good luck. In the Hindu tradition rain on the wedding day is considered lucky, as it is believed to foretell a strong marriage. The logic behind this belief is that a wet knot is more difficult to untie. So if it rains on your wedding day you will have a long, happy marriage. This all bodes very well for Richard & Emma who were married at Luxters in the Hambleden valley between Henley & Marlow on a wet day in November.

Samson was with Richard & the boys at Hotel du Vin in Henley to start with & took some great shots of the boys getting ready. They didn’t mind a bit of rain & he took them down to the riverside & got some great shots. The rain & gloom only adding to the moody images with the reflections in the water of the Thames.

Whilst Samson was with the boys I headed to Emma’s parents house where she was getting ready with her bridesmaids. I love this time of the day & nothing beats the emotion of everyone seeing the bride in her dress for the first time.

Samson made his way with the boys to Luxters & started capturing images of the barn, details & the guests arriving.

I left the house & headed to the barn to get there ahead of Bride’s arrival. She drove up to the barn in a fabulous vintage car & the bridesmaids leapt into action to keep her sheltered from the rain. They made their way into the house to speak to the registrar & freshen up but it was soon time for Emma to see her groom.

They made their way across the yard protected from the elements the best they could. Despite the rain a beaming bride entered the barn on the arm of her very proud dad.

The ceremony was lovely, particularly meaningful as Emma’s step dad was a registrar so had the honor of marrying Emma & Richard.

The happy couple made their way back down the aisle & outside. Luckily at this point the rain had lessened to a slight mizzle as they were followed outside by their wedding guests. I dashed upstairs whilst the guests sheltered under their umbrellas & then on my word it was umbrellas down!

Whilst the guests headed to the marquee for the drinks reception Emma, Richard, Samson & I went to do some stylish shots of the happy couple. Sometimes you can do these shots later if better weather is forecast but with the light going fast we went for it. Richard & Emma were really prepared for it with wellies & my trusty white umbrellas & despite the rain their happiness shone through.

We made our way back to the barn & it was time for the Bride & Groom to join their guests for the wedding breakfast. After some fabulous & very funny speeches it was time for the couple to have their first dance. Soon they were joined on the dance floor by their friends & families & we left them dancing the night away.
