Breadsong: Food Photography Published

Photographing Food for the Orange Bakery

Mark was given the opportunity to work with local business The Orange Bakery on their book for Bloomsbury Publishing: Breadsong, a recipe book that doubles to tell the story of a father and daughter run bakery.

Working with local businesses is rewarding work for Mark. He is able to bring value to small Oxfordshire businesses and learn all about their fascinating projects. He is able to bring their creations to life and make them available to everyone through his photography.

Mark perfectly understood and balanced the needs of us, the publishers, with the creative vision of the authors. He was a delight to work with and went above and beyond to capture the perfect images – Bloomsbury Publishing

Capturing The Mood

Mark encompassed Al and Kitty’s passion for their bakery, and captured their ideas for their book.

All the recipes in the book required images to be captured from sourdough loaves to baguettes and flatbreads to buns and doughnuts. These were individually photographed in styled shoots with an amazing collection of colourful, vintage props such as radios, phones, and cameras.

This helped to create an authentic and rustic, retro vibe to match the way that The Orange Bakery feels.

Hear from the client

Mark was brilliant to work with; imaginative, flexible and deeply patient with our rapidly changing demands. We’d been told that photographing the recipes for a book was one of the most stressful parts of the process. Actually it turned out to be the most enjoyable. Mark was able to take our ideas, however woolly and unformed, and turn them into reality. He always managed to find the right tone we were after and his eye for detail made all the difference. He is a pleasure to work with, very efficient at turning things around quickly and sets up an excellent rapport with all the members of the team, from us as clients, to the designer and the editor too. – Al Tait

Oxford Photography for Small Businesses

Being able to make meaningful connections with so many local heroes, business owners, and families is just one of the many reasons that Mark does what he does.

Being a countryside, rural photographer has its perks.  Not only does Mark get to meet and work with lots of exciting individuals in the most beautiful settings, but he also uses his expertise to photograph in many different styles and categories.

Photographing artisan businesses is not all Mark can do!

He is also a very successful commercial photographer, covering events, headshots, properties, and dating profile photography.  He also covers family portraits and pet portraits, as well as garden photography, horse photography, and circus photography.

The Breadsong Book

After a lot of working and waiting, the Breadsong book can finally be yours in April 2022.  Be sure to check out Breadsong, if not for the beautiful visuals, for the mouthwatering bakes!

I feel privileged to be able to work with Kitty and Al and the Tait family on Breadsong. I love artisanal foods and local businesses so being able to capture Kitty and Al working in their Oxfordshire bakery was a great experience for me. I found the whole process of meeting the needs of the publishers, book designer and the Tait family very enjoyable and I am beyond proud of the final outcome, that will be on the shelves of many bakers around the world for years to come  – Mark Lord
